Obtain letters of recommendation
from faculty not residents
Recently, we were asked by a student if it is acceptable
to obtain a letter of recommendation from a resident she worked with. No
matter how highly the resident thinks of you, we urge you not to ask a
resident for a letter of recommendation. A letter written by a resident
will not carry the same weight as one written by a faculty member. In
fact, such a letter, even if it's glowing, may very well hurt your
application.
