About the rotation

The psychiatry clerkship is usually of two months’ duration and may consist of inpatient, outpatient, consult/liaison, or psychiatry emergency center experiences. Students generally find this a fun and interesting rotation with clinical experiences not found elsewhere in medical school. This clerkship should introduce you to the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, as well as provide you with a framework for relating to patients in all areas of medicine. You will also learn about subspecialties of psychiatry, including child and adolescent, geriatric, forensic and substance addiction psychiatry.
