About the rotation

The pediatric clerkship is usually about two months in duration, and includes inpatient, outpatient, emergency room, and nursery experiences. As pediatrics is mostly an outpatient specialty, the pediatric clerkship will often incorporate several hours of clinic per week – even during inpatient months. Although often considered less rigorous than the general medicine and surgery clerkships, the pediatrics clerkship will introduce you to all facets of pediatric medicine – ranging from the care of pre-term neonates with bronchopulmonary dysplasia to the care of adolescents with eating disorders. The pediatrics clerkship is multidisciplinary in that it will incorporate many of the skills learned from the internal medicine, surgery, OB/Gyn, and psychiatry clerkships, and tailor those skills towards the care of children.
