What are the components of an application?
The components of an application include the following:

  • Residency program application
  • Transcript
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Personal statement
  • Dean's letter
  • Letters of recommendation

When should I submit my application to the residency programs?
Each residency program has their own application deadline. While you should be aware of the deadline, we recommend turning in your application earlier rather than later.

What happens to my application once it is sent to the residency program?
Once the residency program receives your application, it will be screened by members of the residency selection committee. Although the screening process varies from one residency program to another, it usually consists of the committee members looking over certain aspects of your application. Most often, they will look at your program application, letters of recommendation, Dean's letter, and transcript. Based on their review of your application, you will be classified into one of the following three groups:

  • Definitely meets criteria for an interview
  • Does not meet criteria for an interview
  • Falls into gray zone

Who sits on the residency selection committee?
The residency selection committee typically consists of the following individuals:

  • Residency program director
  • Department chairman
  • Faculty members
  • + House officers
