Dr. Samir Desai
Dr. Samir Desai serves on the faculty of the Baylor
College of Medicine in the Department of Medicine. He has educated and
mentored medical students and residents, work for which he has received
teaching awards. He is an author and editor, having written eleven books
that together have sold over 100,000 copies worldwide.
His latest book, The Successful Match: 200 Rules to Succeed in the Residency
Match, has helped applicants develop the optimal strategy for residency
match success. Dr. Desai is also the co-author of the popular 250 Biggest Mistakes 3rd Year Medical
Students Make And How To Avoid Them, a book that shows students how to excel
during the third year of medical school. He is also the author of the Clinician’s
Guide to Laboratory Medicine: Pocket. Widely used by students, this book provides
a unique step-by-step approach to lab test interpretation while fitting easily in
a coat pocket.
With Dr. Rajani Katta, he writes a regular column for
www.studentdoctor.net
called “The Successful Match. The goal of the column is to provide applicants with
a better understanding of the residency selection process. Applicants can then use
this information to develop an approach that will lead to a successful residency match.
After completing his residency training in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Desai had the opportunity of serving as chief medical resident. He received his M.D. degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan, graduating first in his class.
